Kids Cooking

Recently my son has taken an interest in helping in the kitchen. He is much better at helping than when he was last interested at the age of four. To encourage this we bought him a cookbook and an apron for his 12th Birthday. He got another cookbook from his best friend. That is another story. Please meet Mad Delicious by Keith Schroeder.  We conquered our first dish together two nights ago and it was super yummy! Spicy braised calamari.
As the teen years approach it is fun to have a new thing to bond with my son about. The whole family really ate it up fast so that we only got a picture of the last serving.

My Dreams in Plastic

As some of you know my brain still spends a great deal of time in the fantasy world of my old D&D characters. Now that I have started playing again I have been working on ways to bring my old campaign back to life. The current group is stomping around where the old group did all those years ago. To prepare for possible cameos by my favorite characters I have discovered that Shrinky Dinks make for great figures. Behold Prince Olorain and Magistrate Wickliffe of The Five Worlds! No Wickliffe is not wearing a tie.

You can do it too. To bad I am not a very good artist. They however will do nicely. I took a mix of pics from online of real people dressing in mid-evil clothing, faces of people I image could play my characters in the movie in my head. Then I photo edited them together  and printed them out to be about 3.5 inches tall. Then I traced them on to shrinky dink paper. Shrinking from 3.5 inches tall makes them about the same size as war-gaming lead figures. I just ordered some printable paper so hopefully I can make some much more realistic figures. Much cheaper and more personalized than store bought figures. I figure on sheet or shrinky paper is about 1.50 each and you can make at least 2 figures. That and the penny I glued them too makes for about $0.76 each.

Favorite Quotes

I keep this list running the Book of Faces but when they redo the layout it sometimes gets lost. I thought I would move it here to keep better track. I add more awesome quotes when I run across them.

"Back when the Bible was written, then edited, then rewritten, then rewritten, then re-edited, then translated from dead languages, then re-translated, then edited, then rewritten, then given to kings for them to take their favorite parts, then rewritten, then re-rewritten, then translated again, then given to the pope for him to approve, then rewritten, then edited again, the re-re-re-re-rewritten again...all based on stories that were told orally 30 to 90 years AFTER they happened.. to people who didnt know how to write... so..." -David Cross

"The Schofield Kid: It don't seem real... how he ain't gonna never breathe again, ever... how he's dead. And the other one too. All on account of pulling a trigger.
